MS in Robotics and Control Candidate
MECHATRONICS AND MICRO-CONTROLLERS
The mini-projects involve controlling the various systems such as Digital On/Off system, Thermal system, Electronics and OpAmp (Magnetic Levitation) using the embedded microcontroller.
MINI PROJECTS

MAGNETIC LEVITATION (MAG LEV)
In this mini project two of the OpAmp circuits are used to form the control compensator for an electromagnetic levitation (Mag Lev) system. OpAmps are an effective means of providing continuous feedback control for mechatronic systems. The compensator circuit provides both phase lead and feedback gain to make the active feedback control stable.

ON/OFF CONTROL
This lab will investigate on/off control with a microcomputer using a simple laboratory test fixture. The mini project involves controlling a solenoid using PIC 16F474 micro controller and various sensors in 4 different modes.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL
This case study is a dynamic system investigation of an important and common mechatronic system: a thermal closed-loop control system. The apparatus investigated includes a resistive heater, two temperature sensors, and a fan. The objective of the case study is to control the temperature of a thin aluminum plate, as measured by a temperature sensor positioned in the middle of the top of the plate, by regulating the power supplied to a resistive heater positioned under the plate. There is a fan positioned above the plate which will cool the plate.
The measured voltage from the two temperature sensors will be input to the embedded microcontroller via the on-chip A/D converter.
